PR Card Renewals: Stay Protected & Mobile

A valid Permanent Resident Card is essential for re-entering Canada as a permanent resident. We help you renew your PR card and address any residency obligation concerns.

Your Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) is your proof of permanent resident status. It’s required for re-entering Canada by air or sea. If your card is expiring or expired, you’ll need to renew it before international travel.

At Slipacoff Immigration Law, we help permanent residents renew their PR cards and address any residency obligation concerns that might complicate the renewal.

Residency Obligation Concerns

As a permanent resident, you must be physically present in Canada for at least 2 years out of every 5 years. This is called the “residency obligation.”

If you’ve spent significant time outside Canada, IRCC may question whether you’ve met your residency obligation during PR card renewal. We can help you document your time in Canada and address any concerns.

When Do You Need a PR Card Renewal?

  • Your PR card is expiring (within 9 months)
  • Your PR card has expired
  • Your name or date of birth has changed
  • Your PR card was lost, stolen, or damaged
  • Your PR status has changed (becoming a citizen, for example)

How We Help

STEP 1: Residency Obligation Check

We assess whether you’ve met your residency obligation. We calculate your days in Canada and outside Canada. If there’s any concern, we develop a strategy for addressing it.

STEP 2: Documentation Preparation

We help you gather supporting documents: passport stamps, employment letters (if working abroad), tax documents, housing documents, and any other proof of time in Canada. We prepare a detailed timeline of your residence.

STEP 3: Application Submission

We submit your PR card renewal application with supporting documentation. We ensure everything is organized and complete.

STEP 4: Monitoring & Response Support

We monitor your application. If IRCC requests additional information or raises residency obligation concerns, we help you respond.
